Okay, I completed Mink’s Re:Connect good end!!! (big gomen to all the peeps I spammed on Twitter ahha..ha…h..)

I’ve been super hyped about playing Mink’s Re:Connect and couldn’t wait any longer -plus there’s the whole thing with the patch translation being a bit bias against Mink. I was going to try play with my limited Japanese skills, try decode things and learn along the way, but I got super impatient lmao and used a translation for most of it. I did learn a couple of new kanji along the way though!! and the fact that Aoba calls his dick 俺のモノ ww

Ahh, what can I say? Let’s start from the beginning of the route; after the events of Platinum Jail, Aoba has a baseless belief that Mink’s alive “somewhere underneath the same sky.” He begins researching, working from the little information he knows. Super High School Level Detective Aoba. Aoba!!!!!! researching!! for god knows what to find Mink!!!!!!!!!!! In his free time he’d try find information by talking to people and going to second-hand book stores.. cute…. Anyway, it was during this time that Aoba figures out Mink, at least thinks he does.

"When we were together in Platinum Jail I wondered why we had to do such terrible things. I couldn’t understand your way of thinking at all. But… But after I returned to Kyuujuuminku I realised that in reality you had thought about a lot of things."

I feel like this is an important line. Some parts of the fandom are so blind to the fact that there’s actually something beyond Mink’s character aside from rape. You have to play his entire route, you need to look at the details, you need to actually stop and think for a moment. You don’t have to like him, you just have to understand him. Mink’s route in the original game was not meant to be romantic; the rape is not romanticised or a way to make Aoba “fall in love” with Mink. Honestly, when I completed the first game I didn’t know what to think about Mink. It was more intrigue than like or dislike. As I looked more into his character I got more and more interested in him and how his relationship with Aoba could possibly work.
Having all those things happen to him, Aoba reflected and decided that he wanted to know more about Mink. Aoba took the words he got from Mink into heart; that you have to “decide what you yourself want” and set that into action yourself. So he goes in pursuit of Mink to some foreign land, not because of blind romantic feelings, but because he wants to hear Mink’s side of the story. Speculation wasn’t good enough for Aoba; he needed to hear the words from Mink himself, who he firmly believes is alive. For about a month Aoba searches this foreign land that he describes as a bit worse off than back in Japan, with locals taking time to accept him.

What I really love is Aoba’s determination. It’s so endearing and think that’s what makes this pairing significantly different. With every route in the original game, you just stick with one character and at the end of Platinum Jail you’re in love; there was no real chase…. . It was always the other character initiating the relationship. Aoba puts his foot down and pursues Mink furiously. Ahh, I just find it so refreshing how Aoba is so feverishly pursuing Mink!!!!! When he finds Mink he refuses to go back to the inn unless Mink promises to meet him again. He pushes Mink for answers time and time again. He perseveres when Mink didn’t speak to him a whole month and continued to make dinner for Mink every night even though he didn’t eat any of it. (I got annoyed when I read Mink didn’t talk to Aoba or eat any of the food he made ahh poor perfect waifu Aoba. Mink u butt!!!!!!!!!!)

Aoba’s fear of Mink leaving him was pretty sad tbh. He was so insecure that after all the effort of finding Mink, Mink would disappear again. It would be easy for Mink to just leave and Aoba knew that. When Mink was late one night, Aoba went on a frantic search for him… Luckily his stupid action led to Mink taking care if him! ( ´▽`)

To be honest, I wish it went a little slower. They finally talked and got the discussion of the past out of the way, but Aoba wanted to end the night by having The D. I just felt like they could have had more time to get used to each other, awkward times trying to get past the bad times. In BL the act of sex is always used to “solidify” relationships which is kinda weird but ok. At this point Aoba was scared that Mink would leave again, he didn’t want Mink to go. Mink wanted Aoba to take a warm bath because he was out in the cold searching for a long time, but Aoba refuses because he didn’t want to be away from Mink; he could disappear again. He couldn’t trust Mink’s words because he’s been so insecure the entire time. SO THEY HAD THE SEX. THE UNBREAKABLE BOND OF GAY SEX. But it had a good build up and there was much hesitation from Mink. A lot of Mink trying to play dumb and Aoba’s like ‘you know, I want u 2 touch me. give me da D.’ The sweet part when Mink asks Aoba about the feelings in his hair and touches his hair gently and Aoba can’t think straight at that point kjfngk and Mink is so sincere and feels bad for what he did to Aoba uuuuuuuuuuuhuuuuuuuuuuuu remorseful Mink is my weakness. And Mink asks several times during sex if Aoba’s okay and if he wants to stop , and he’s careful with Aoba and uuuuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh such a difference from the first game!!!!!!

aND THAT SCENE WITH THE CREAM AND IT SPLITS INTO TWO CHOICES LMAOO. I chose ‘lick the cream’ for the first option bc hell yeah Aoba, lick it, but I think I liked the scene where he didn’t lick it better lmao. bc Aoba sucking Mink’s fingers…………yeah 8)

THE MORNING AFTER was super sweet ugh ughg Mink eating the food Aoba made the night before hkjdnfgljkng and Aoba ended up actually catching a cold aND HAVING MINK TAKE CARE OF HIM……

I find it funny how he tries to put distance between him and Aoba, but he obviously doesn’t mean it.

From Mink’s point of view, everything Aoba does is just so confusing. He is a man who wished to die but couldn’t, and it’s all because of the blue mullet terror staying in his home. Remorseful Mink was one of the highlights of the route!! How can he face Aoba after all the terrible things he’s done to him? He used Aoba as a tool, he wanted to break his soul so he could control him, he was going to die at the end of it all so none of the consequences mattered —but he didn’t. He couldn’t see Aoba as a tool, he couldn’t break Aoba, he couldn’t even die at the end of it all. He thought he could use the “other Aoba” but the power also frightened him. He couldn’t control this other Aoba, which he saw as the other side of Aoba, so he tried to cover his fear with violence. Selfish and cowardly.
But here Aoba is; followed him to some foreign place, pushing his way into Mink’s life again. Mink tells Aoba to go home several times but Aoba tells him “if you really didn’t want to meet me you wouldn’t.” Mink did want to see Aoba, but he felt himself unworthy. He does not want to hurt Aoba again. So he tries to distance himself from Aoba, push Aoba to leave, but Aoba is a persistent little shit and shakes Mink up. Aoba does a lot of things Mink doesn’t expect. He feels unworthy of all the kindness Aoba gives him, tries to be cold but he’s met with Aoba’s kindness everyday through the dinner he makes, through Aoba just being there, and he can’t help that his heart moves. And then he catches Aoba freezing in the living room and tries to nurse him in a kuudere way. And Aoba fucking wants the D and Mink has been holding back these feelings for so long and kjbgfkj

tbh when people call minao Stockholm syndrome I’m not sure what to think. On one hand, yeah it can be interpreted that way. On the other, Aoba is a genuinely good guy who cares about people. He showed interest in what was driving Mink, he knew there was something beyond the surface. Mink tried, unsuccessfully, as he says himself, to break and control Aoba’s soul. That didn’t work, Aoba’s soul isn’t “controlled” by Mink.
Well, whether or not you think it is, Mink acknowledges his awful actions and they have a happy domestic life in the middle of nowhere.

oh yeah, Mink’s eye colour changed?? it really threw my off when Aoba said his eye colour changed but I never really noticed that his eyes were blue…. although I’ve seen a lot of fanart where his eyes were both blue and gold, I didn’t really pay it much mind. The gold colour does make him look a lot gentler. hell, his whole design in Re:Connect is fucking charming. he’s a big ol’ softie and i want to punch him ^_____^

ok this post is all over the place bc I took over 3 days to write it bc I’m lazy, yeah. I can’t believe I wrote this fucking much, this is over 2k words……I’m probably missing things I want to say but w/e….2k words………..I just enjoyed Mink’s route a lot!! I had a lot of minao headcanons after the first game and it was nice to see them coming true ^q^ I don’t think I’ll write this much, if at all, for the other routes (which I’ll play when the patch is released), and I think Mink’s route was the one I wrote the most for in the first game.. Noiao is my DMMd OTP but I just find Minao so interesting and have A Lot Of Things To Say. If you bothered to read my shameless minao fangirling up to the end then congratulations!! you’re a winner!!
